CLAT 2026 Vacant Seats Notification

CLAT 2026 Vacant Seats Notification: How to Grab a Last-Minute NLU Seat

The centralized admission process by the Consortium of NLUs concluded with the release of the fifth and final merit list. However, if you didn't secure a seat or missed out on your preferred university, your National Law University (NLU) dream is not over yet.

More than 100 seats remain vacant across various undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs at multiple top-tier and mid-tier NLUs. Because the centralized allotment process has wrapped up, individual universities are now filling these remaining vacancies through independent, institutional-level spot rounds.

At National CLAT Academy, we have broken down everything you need to know about the ongoing vacancy landscape, critical deadlines, and the step-by-step application protocol.

The NLU Vacancy & Spot Round Schedule (June 2026)

Unlike the primary admission rounds, there is no single portal or unified form for spot rounds. You must apply directly to each NLU. Many universities use institutional application forms or dedicated Google Forms.

The current vacancy status and application deadlines across key NLUs include:

NCA Expert Insight on "Waiting Lists": Universities like Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, are inviting applications not just for immediate empty slots, but to build an institutional waiting pool. If a student withdraws their admission right before classes begin in July, the university will fill that vacancy exclusively from the pool of candidates who apply to this specific notification.

Essential Eligibility Criteria

To participate in these institutional spot rounds, you must fulfill the basic criteria set by the Consortium alongside the respective university's reservation policies:?

Valid CLAT 2026 Rank: You must possess a valid CLAT 2026 scorecard. Allotments are done strictly in order of merit (inter-se merit) among the applicants who apply for that specific vacancy notification.

Class 12 Marks: Minimum 45% marks in aggregate for General / OBC / EWS / PwD categories, and 40% marksfor SC / ST categories.

Original Category Selection: You can only claim reservation benefits (Caste, EWS, or State Domicile) if you selected that specific category in your original CLAT application form. New category claims are not permitted during the spot rounds.

Step-by-Step Spot Round Application Procedure

Because spot-round timelines are incredibly tight, an absolute precision approach is mandatory. Missing a submission window by even a few minutes can cost you a seat. Follow this procedural roadmap:

1.
  • Monitor NLU Portal Announcements
  • Daily Tracking
  • Visit the official websites of your target NLUs daily. Navigate to the "Admissions 2026" or "Notice Board" section to find the explicit PDF notification for vacant seats.
2.
  • Verify Your Category Vacancy
  • Analyze the Matrix
  • Open the official notification PDF and examine the seat matrix layout. Ensure there is an active opening in your specific category (All India Unreserved, State Domicile, SC, ST, etc.) before applying.
3.
  • Pay the Processing Fee
  • Institutional Fees
  • Remit the university's specific application processing fee (typically between Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000) via their designated online gateway, HDFC portal, or SBI Collect link. Keep a digital copy of the payment receipt.
4.
  • Submit the Official Application Form
  • Document Upload
  • Complete the university's online application form or Google Form before the deadline. Upload clean, scanned copies of your CLAT 2026 Scorecard, Admit Card, Class 10 & 12 Marksheets, and relevant Category/Domicile Certificates.

The 24-Hour Fee Warning: Once an NLU releases its provisional spot-round merit list, selected candidates are usually given a very narrow window (frequently just 24 to 48 hours) to pay the full university semester or annual admission fee. Ensure you have your finances and documents ready to lock in the seat immediately.
